The Utica Comets struck early and often on Sunday night in Grand Rapids, building a 3-1 lead within the first 12 minutes of the fifth game of the Western Conference finals. The Griffins responded admirably, but their effort fell short as they would end up losing the game 3-2, putting them one game away from elimination.
First shot by Bertuzzi didn’t go, but no worries, @zengerle9 gets the @griffinshockey on the board anyways. #UTIvsGR pic.twitter.com/d4Sm9KUQa9

Mark Zengerle and Dylan Larkin (Check out his goal here!) scored the only two goals for the Griffins, after they out-shot the Comets 34-21. Jacob Markstrom, the Comets’ goaltender, made several spectacular saves to halt the Griffins’ comeback attempt.
The Griffins now have the daunting task of playing Game 6 on Tuesday and hopefully Game 7 on Wednesday in Utica in order to advance to the Calder Cup Finals. The Griffins are 3-0 this postseason when facing elimination.
