Haloti Ngata thinks Ray Rice would be a “great addition” to the Lions

After releasing Reggie Bush, the Detroit Lions may be interested in picking up a running back either through free agency or via the NFL Draft. Newly acquired defensive tackle Haloti Ngata thinks that his former teammate Ray Rice could be the man for the job.

In an interview for the Stoney and Bill Show on 97.1 The Ticket, Ngata vouched for Rice and suggested he should have another opportunity to play in the NFL, maybe even for the Lions.

“I’ve never hung out with him off-field, but he’s a great guy,” Ngata said “He’s a great guy on the field, in the locker room, he’s a great community guy, he does a lot for the community, and so of course I think he would be a great addition to this team. I love playing with him, I trusted him. You feel bad for his situation. You just hope nothing but the best for him.”

Rice, who is 28-years-old, still has the ability to help out a team in the NFL given the right situation. The big question though is how would he be accepted by a new team and the fans after what he did to his wife?

The veteran running back also has ties to Lions head coach Jim Caldwell and defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, as they were all in Baltimore together as part of the Ravens organization. If the Lions do in fact decide to give Rice a chance, I would assume it will be because Caldwell and Austin give the green light.
