Hapless Red Wings shut out by Hurricanes, 2-0

The Detroit Red Wings were only able to muster eight total shots through the second and third periods of Sunday night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes at Little Caesars Arena.

Needless to say, that didn’t bode well.

The Hurricanes handed the Red Wings their sixth straight defeat and fourth straight in regulation, shutting them out by a 2-0 score. Goaltender James Reimer made 19 saves in a relatively easy outing, spelling starter (and former Red Wing) Petr Mrazek.

Jimmy Howard made 34 saves in a losing but solid effort. Filip Zadina, called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins earlier in the day, played 15:04 with a shot on goal in his NHL season debut.

The Red Wings will now host the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are 2-0 in the post-Mike Babcock era, Wednesday night at home.
