Henning: Detroit Tigers’ manager Ron Gardenhire may have decided on future

It has been a long couple of seasons for Ron Gardenhire.

Since taking over as manager of the Detroit Tigers prior to the 2018 season, Gardenhire has seen his team struggle to a 93-162 overall record. This season has been especially difficult as the Tigers are currently 29-64, which is dead last in the American League Central.

In fact, the Tigers have been so bad that they have managed to lose 25 of their past 28 games at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Listening to Gardenhire talk following games, it is becoming clearer and clearer that all of this losing is very difficult for him.

“Yeah,” he told the Jamie and Stoney Show on 97.1 The Ticket. “Not winning, I mean, really struggling, going long stretches without winning ballgames is really hard, for myself and the staff, because we’re at the ballpark early and we spend all day trying to get these guys prepared to play and the game goes on and it’s just not going our way. So, yeah, it is.

“You have to keep up the good attitude, and we do that, and at the end of the day you end up looking at the ceiling at 3:00 in the morning every night. Those are the hard times. You’re just trying to figure out, what can I do? How can I help this situation out? You just have to keep a positive attitude in the clubhouse every day. That’s what we try to do.”

According to former Detroit News writer Lynn Henning, he is “gathering Ron Gardenhire has decided three years will have been enough.”

Now, this is pure speculation at this point, but you can bet for Henning to tweet something like that, he has likely heard rumblings.

If Henning’s tweet turns out to be true, Gardenhire will likely have just one season left with the Tigers and it will likely be another difficult one.
