For veteran big-time sports agent Arn Tellem, it’s time for a career change. On Friday it was revealed that the one-time Kobe Bryant representative will join Palace Sports & Entertainment as its vice chairman later this summer.
Tellem is currently employed by the Wasserman Media Group, representing upcoming free agents LaMarcus Aldridge and Marc Gasol, among others. However, his position in Detroit will be with Palace Sports & Entertainment, not the Detroit Pistons directly (though he will be available for consult with head coach Stan Van Gundy).
According to the Detroit Free Press, Tellem’s role will be to grow and develop PS&E as a whole:
PS&E is mulling many options for moving the business forward. One such area could be the TV deal with Fox Sports Detroit. They could renew the deal when it expires or partner with Olympia Entertainment (the umbrella organization for the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers) to form a regional sports network.
Tellem will be tasked with pinpointing the best option and negotiating the best deal. He also will work to strengthen ties with the other professional sports franchises in the market.
In a released statement, PS&E and Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores welcomed Tellem with open arms.
“Arn is one of the most accomplished and respected sports executives in the world,” Gores said. “He has great passion, integrity and honesty, and he shares my belief that sports can be a catalyst for change in the community. He is an outstanding addition to our leadership team who will help us make a real difference in Detroit.”
