Inside the Article:
When the Detroit Lions officially hired Dan Campbell following the 2020 season, Campbell had an introductory press conference that had quite a few people shaking their heads. In fact, there were quite a few “so-called” experts that were convinced that Campbell was a joke and that there was no way he would ever lead Detroit to the promised land. Though this story still has plenty of chapters to go, Campbell sure is off to a good start, and Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson is very impressed with what he has seen.
Jimmy Johnson loves him some Dan Campbell
During a Super Bowl interview with Tim Twentyman of detroitlions.com, Johnson talked about the job Campbell has done so far in Detroit, adding that he is “very impressed” with how things have worked out so far.
“I think Dan Campbell has been impressive because early with Dan you saw the team play extremely hard and they were a very physical team,” Johnson told detroitlions.com. “In fact, I made the comment on FOX NFL Sunday, I said, ‘Man, they play hard, they are well coached, but they don’t win.’ Well, all of the sudden that hard work and that effort started paying dividends and they started winning games.”
“He’s done a great job there,” Johnson said of Campbell. “I’m very impressed with Dan Campbell.”
Why it Matters for the Detroit Lions
Personally, I have absolutely loved the Campbell hire since Day 1, and though there have been brief moments where I have questioned his game-management skills, he has proven that he will continue to improve in that area. When the Lions hired Campbell, there were some haters that wanted to call him a “clown show”, but those people have already been proven wrong. When you have Hall of Fame coaches, and his players singing his praises, that is certainly a great thing.
