Houston Astros’ Justin Verlander is coming home to Detroit

From 2004-2017, Justin Verlander quickly became a favorite of Detroit Tigers‘ fans.

During that time, he won 183 regular season games, was selected to six All-Star Games, and was named American League MVP following his amazing 2011 season.

But moments before the MLB trade deadline in July of 2017, Verlander was dealt to the Houston Astros for prospects, breaking the hearts of plenty of Tigers’ fans.

Since leaving, Verlander and the Tigers have gone in opposite directions. Justin was part of a World Series winning Astros’ team while the Tigers have been going through a complete rebuild.

Next week, Tigers’ fans will likely have the opportunity to see Verlander return to the mound at Comerica Park when the Astros come to town for a 3-game series. Verlander is currently slated to start the series finale on Wednesday night and barring a rain-out or something of that nature, he will get the start against his former team.

If Verlander does indeed get the start, it will be the second time he has pitched in Comerica Park since being traded to the Astros. The first came in September of the 2018 season when he led the Astros to a victory by striking out 10 Tigers’ hitters and allowing just two runs in seven innings of work.

So far in 2019, JV has been dominant once again for the Astros as he is 5-1 with a 2.86 ERA to go along with 60 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched.
