On Tuesday night, HBO’s Real Sports had a featured segment on the developments (or lack thereof) of District Detroit and to say the report was harsh would be an understatement. It clearly made the Ilitch family out to be the bad guys.
Today, the Ilitch family’s spokesman, Shawn Platt released a rebuttal statement:
From Detroit Free Press:
“Our organization has six decades of dedication, commitment and positive impact throughout the broader Detroit community,” the statement began. “We are exceptionally proud of our accomplishments, including the creation of thousands of jobs, the restoration of various historic buildings, and the development of a downtown sports and entertainment district which has surged since the opening of Little Caesars Arena.”
The statement, seen on social media, called the report on HBO’s “Real Sports” program on Tuesday evening “a self-interested, sensationalized and inaccurate report designed to attract viewers instead of a balanced report on the rebirth of Detroit and our contributions to City’s turn around.”
Nation, did you tune in to see the latest episode of Real Sports? If so, what are your thoughts?
