Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila, who is currently on the 15-day disabled list for loose bodies in his left knee, has decided to forgo knee surgery and begin a treatment program.
After third opinion from Dr. Kyle Anderson, Alex Avila won't have knee surgery. He'll do treatment program instead. No timetable for return.

There is no timetable for his return, but Avila did say he was hoping to be back for the second half of the season. It’s too early to tell if that’s realistic or not.
The Tigers will have to continue to rely on rookie James McCann and Bryan Holaday at the catching position. McCann is the starter for now and there is even a possibility he could be for the rest of the season, which is something not many would have expected at the beginning of the season.
