INJURY UPDATE: Red Wings will get another defenseman back tonight vs. Ducks

The Detroit Red Wings will welcome back another member of their defensive corps on Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks at Little Caesars Arena.

Danny DeKeyser is set to return after missing the past 19 games after blocking a shot against the Colorado Avalanche on December 2, a 2-0 Red Wings loss. Detroit will be looking to win their second in a row for the first time since November 28-December 1, while the Ducks have dropped a franchise record 11 straight games.

“I was able to skate the last six weeks so that was definitely a huge benefit,” DeKeyser said. “I’m looking to just get right back in there and hopefully after a few shifts or a period, I’m feeling good again and playing good.

“The game’s so fast. It’s just reading plays, going back to get pucks on breakouts, hitting guys out of your own zone, stuff like that. It’s the mental side of things just as much as it is physical.”

In order to facilitate the move, the Red Wings placed forward Michael Rasmussen on short-term injured reserve, retroactive to January 6. Rasmussen is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, for the immediate time being, they’ll be keeping defenseman Filip Hronek with the team, though he could be soon assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Jimmy Howard headed to 2018 NHL All-Star Game

The 2018-19 NHL season will likely be the third consecutive in a row that the Detroit Red Wings will be on the outside looking in when the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin. But among the bright spots this year is the play of goaltender Jimmy Howard, who has kept his team in games on most nights and has had several strong performances.

The NHL announced on Wednesday that Howard will represent the Red Wings at the 2018 NHL All-Star game at SAP Center at San Jose. It will be Howard’s third time at the annual event; Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price was named the other goaltender for the Atlantic Division.
