It didn’t take long for the Detroit Lions to strike first against the Chicago Bears on Sunday at Ford Field.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs capped off Detroit’s opening possession with a 6-yard touchdown run, taking a pitch from quarterback Jared Goff and cruising into the end zone. The score gave the Lions an early 7-0 lead and set the tone for the offense.

The drive was a statement. Detroit’s offensive line completely controlled the trenches, paving the way for a quick 5-play, 60-yard march. Goff went a perfect 2-for-2 for 43 yards, including a 34-yard strike to Amon-Ra St. Brown on the very first play of the series to put the Lions in business.

Ford Field erupted as Gibbs crossed the goal line, a fitting response from a team that came into Week 2 eager to bounce back from its disappointing opener in Green Bay.
