Heading into the 2021 NFL Draft, many believed that the Cincinnati Bengals would select OT Penei Sewell to bolster their offensive line for QB Joe Burrow.
Instead, the Bengals, who had the No. 5 overall pick, decided to select WR Ja’Marr Chase and the Detroit Lions jumped for joy knowing that Sewell was about to fall to them at No. 7.
Fast forward to the present and Chase is coming off of an amazing rookie campaign and he is a big reason why the Bengals will be playing in the Super Bowl this coming Sunday.
On Monday, Chase was asked if he thinks the Bengals would have made the Super Bowl had they passed on him and selected Sewell with the No. 5 pick.
“I don’t know. I ain’t here to answer that. That’s not my job. They picked me and that’s what we got here, so they must have made the right decision.”
Had the Bengals selected Sewell instead of Chase, Chase likely would have gone at No. 6 to the Dolphins, who ended up selecting Jaylen Waddle.
Ja'Marr Chase asked if he thinks the Bengals still make the Super Bowl if they drafted Sewell instead of him: "I don't know. I ain't here to answer that. That's not my job. They picked me and that's what we got here, so they must have made the right decision."
