Jared Goff connects with Amon-Ra St. Brown for 1st Detroit Lions touchdown of 2023 [Video]

The first Detroit Lions touchdown of 2023 is on the board!

The Detroit Lions are off and running to start the 2023 NFL season, as they've taken the lead over the Kansas City Chiefs thanks to Amon-Ra St. Brown!

Detroit Lions touchdown

A fake punt call from Dan Campbell set the stage

A gutsy fake punt call from the Lions from inside their own 20 yard line helped set up what would eventually be a successful 91 yard drive:

Amon-Ra St. Brown scores the 1st Lions TD of the season

Eventually reaching the red zone, Goff connected with St. Brown. It was a 9-yard reception on 3rd-and-6 for St. Brown, who easily trotted into the end zone to give the Lions the first lead of the year:

For Brown, it was his third reception of the drive and a direct continuation from last season that saw him record 106 catches for 1,161 yards.

St. Brown admitted to being bothered other teams passed on him

St. Brown has been vocal about promising not to forget that there were 16 wide receivers drafted ahead of him before the Lions selected him in Round 4 of the NFL Draft of 2021.

“I actually still think about it,” the third year wideout admitted during an interview with NFL Network during the summer.

“I actually have my goals written down in my notebook. What I want to achieve every year. So, what I want to achieve this year going into the season, my personal goals, and then right below that I have the 16 receivers written down, where they went to college right below that. And so, I read that whole list three times before I go to practice every day. It's something I'll never forget. Something I make sure I'm always reminded of.”

TL;DR (too long didn't read)

  1. The Detroit Lions are taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1st game of the 2023 NFL season for both teams
  2. A gutsy fake punt play call by head coach Dan Campbell set the stage for a 91 yard drive by the Lions
  3. Quarterback Jared Goff connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for the first Detroit Lions touchdown of the year for Detroit, capping the drive
