What makes it even more special for Goff is TeSlaa’s personal journey. Just two years ago, the Hudsonville native was sitting in the stands as a fan during the NFC Championship Game. Now, he’s catching passes from Goff under the Ford Field lights.
“It’s so funny with him, he was at our NFC Championship Game just two years ago as a fan. And now he’s on the team, and making plays with all of us,” Goff said.

For Goff, what matters most isn’t just TeSlaa’s ability to pull down the impossible. It’s the foundation he’s building to become a complete wide receiver in Detroit’s offense.
“That’s got to be the best first two catches in NFL history,” Goff said as quoted by Lions OnSI. “I think the fun part for him is that yeah, those are cool, those are great, but he can do so much more and we’ll start working him into more things in our offense, getting him the ball a little bit better. Yeah, the sky’s the limit for that kid.”
Coming from a quarterback known for thriving with precise, trustworthy receivers, those words carry weight. TeSlaa may be a rookie, but Goff clearly views him as more than just a role player. He sees him as part of the Lions’ future.
