Jared Goff Not Concerned With MVP Awards, Has One Goal In Mind

When an NFL team starts off a season 12-1, it is pretty much a guarantee that the quarterback of that team will be mentioned in the NFL MVP conversation. Well, Jared Goff just so happens to be the signal caller for the 12-1 Detroit Lions, and though he is currently tied for the third-best odds to win the NFL MVP award, he is definitely in the conversation. On Wednesday, Goff spoke to reporters, and he made it pretty clear that winning an MVP award is not his ultimate goal.

Jared Goff

Jared Goff Is Focused on Team Success

“To be honest, not much,” Goff said as quoted by Justin Rogers. “Sure, I’ve been playing well, but a lot of guys have been playing well though. If you’re a quarterback on a good team, you’re probably going to be in that conversation and it’s a credit to all the guys on the squad. We’ve had a really good year up to this point, we’ve got to finish it off. Sure, it’s cool to be recognized in some ways but it doesn’t really mean anything. I want to be holding that trophy at the end of the year, and I know that’s what matters.”

Lions head coach Dan Campbell reiterated that Jared Goff's focus is not on winning an individual award.

“I guarantee you that’s not Goff’s focus,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “Winning the MVP, that’s icing on the cake, but I know for us, man, if you just focus on the win and what it’s going to take to win this game, whatever comes out of that, the individual accolades will follow. You’ll turn around, look back and you’ll realize, ‘All right, this is what’s transpired because we’ve won.’ So, I’m not worried about it, he’s not worried about it, we’ve just got to find a way to win.”

Odds and Upcoming Showdown with Josh Allen

According to DraftKings, the current NFL MVP odds are as follows: Josh Allen -400, Saquon Barkley +450, Jared Goff +1000, Lamar Jackson +1000.

Adding to the excitement, Goff and Allen will square off this coming Sunday when the Lions host the Bills at Ford Field. This highly anticipated matchup will not only be a test of Goff's skills but also a chance for him to further prove his worth in the MVP race.
