Jared Goff Bluntly Calls Late OPI on Isaac TeSlaa a ‘Bad Call’

The ending of Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh is still sitting heavy, and now Jared Goff is speaking plainly about the call that changed everything.

Following the Detroit Lions‘ heartbreaking 29–24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Goff was asked about the offensive pass interference penalty on Isaac TeSlaa that wiped out what looked like a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

His response was direct.

“In my opinion, that’s a bad call.”

The Play That Changed the Game

With just seconds remaining and the Lions driving, Goff rolled right and hit Amon-Ra St. Brown in the end zone for what appeared to be a clutch, go-ahead score. Ford Field erupted — briefly.

Officials ruled the touchdown invalid, calling offensive pass interference on rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa, who was flagged for a pick-style route that referees said helped St. Brown get open.

Instead of celebrating a late lead, the Lions were pushed backward, setting up the chaotic sequence that followed.

Where Things Stand Now

The loss dropped Detroit to 8–7 and left the Lions with virtually no margin for error. Their playoff hopes now hinge on winning out and getting help elsewhere, a far cry from where things stood just a week ago.

But regardless of what happens over the final two games, Sunday’s ending, and that OPI call, won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

And if there was any doubt how the quarterback felt about it, Goff removed it with three simple words:

A bad call.

  1. Our defense did very poorly. Also, if felt Cambell starting a rookie center was an ill-advised move. We just wee’nt executing. Goff can’t be expected to shoulder the offense week after week. He wasn’t well protected. Are secondary needs a total revamp.
