If you thought Lions training camp was all about blocking schemes and route trees, think again. The Taylor Swift effect has officially made its way to Allen Park, and Jared Goff is right in the middle of it.
On Thursday, August 14, the Detroit Lions quarterback was asked about being name-dropped by none other than Swift herself on the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce. And let’s just say… Goff’s phone has never been busier.

How It Happened
During the episode, Swift, who appeared alongside her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, admitted to once asking a hilariously naïve football question. She didn’t realize both Travis and Jason Kelce play offense, meaning they never actually line up against each other during games.
“I now know what an insane question that was,” Swift laughed, before dropping a totally random, and now viral, example:
“I thought it was like, Jared Goff is here and (QB) Josh Allen is here. And they blow a whistle and they go at each other.”
That’s right. Jared Goff. Out of every NFL player, she picked him.

Goff’s Reaction
Once word got back to Lions camp, Goff couldn’t help but laugh about the moment.
“Pretty crazy, huh,” Goff told reporters in an interview posted on X by Hobie Artigue. “That was a crazy couple hours last night for me and my phone. But, yeah, kind of cool.”

Jason Kelce even joined in on the fun, joking, “I would love to see Jared Goff play some defense.”
The Lions’ social media team wasted no time hopping on the trend, posting: “Jared in his defense era? Taylor Swift might be onto something.”

Taylor’s Newfound Football Love
The pop superstar didn’t just drop NFL quarterback names for fun. She talked about her growing interest in the sport, thanks to her relationship with Travis Kelce, and even sprinkled in some hype for her next big project, her new album “The Life of a Showgirl,” set to release on October 3.
Looks like Swifties and Lions fans might be finding some unexpected common ground this season.
