The Detroit Tigers kept the wheels rolling by winning their 5th straight game against a Central Division opponent, this time on the south side of Chicago. Tigers pitcher Beau Brieske took a no-hitter into the 5th inning of Thursday night’s game at Guaranteed Rate Field against the Chicago White Sox, eventually surrendering only a pair of hits while Javier Baez launched his 8th home run of 2022 en route to a 2-1 victory.
With the win, the Tigers are now 35-47 on the season, while the White Sox dropped to 39-42.
Upon having his name announced when he stepped up to bat, Baez was greeted with a mixture of cheers and boos. It wouldn’t be long before he’d blast a slider from Sox starter Dylan Cease into the stands; though he was sure to compliment Cease, who entered the game with a perfect 10-0 career record and 1.91 ERA against the Tigers.

Javier Baez enjoyed a successful return to Chicago
“He’s a tough guy when he combines all his pitches and we didn’t get many hits off him tonight,” Baez explained afterward. “I don’t like to guess or sit on pitches, because then my swing is a little too automatic instead of reacting to it. He actually threw me a good pitch. I just reached out a little bit and got to it.”
“We did a lot right against a really good pitcher tonight. I mean Cease is as good as they get and we made him work and got him out of the game,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch.
The Tigers were able to seal the victory thanks to a single from Westland native Eric Haase, who was pinch-hitting. Haase would then cross home plate thanks to a clutch two-out single from pinch-hitter Spencer Torkelson.
