The 95th season of Detroit Red Wings hockey is set to get underway this week. And with several additions and subtractions made to the roster by GM Steve Yzerman during a busy offseason, the Red Wings will be on a mission to make last year’s abysmal 14-49-5 record a distant memory.
For head coach Jeff Blashill, he has every confidence that his team has every intention of following through on that goal.
“I certainly think we’re a hungry group,” he stated this afternoon. “A group that wants to keep getting better. A group that doesn’t like what’s happened here and wants to get this organization to better days.”
Blashill earned the vote of confidence from Yzerman, who stated that he didn’t believe it fair to judge his performance as coach of a team in the midst of a painful rebuilding process.
“In terms of what to expect, it’s hard to say until we get into live action,” he said. “We want to be as complete and smart a team as we can be, and we’ll get a good test on Thursday.”
“My approach to the season is to continue to get better every day.”
The Red Wings open the season this Thursday with a matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes.
