On January 14th, 2014, the Detroit Lions announced Jim Caldwell as their next head coach. His goal from the very beginning was to bring a Super Bowl to the Lions organization and to the city of Detroit. Unfortunately, Caldwell was unable to reach his goals and today, four seasons later, he has been fired.
Earlier in the day, Lions owner Martha Ford released a statement thanking Caldwell for his service to the organization.

On Monday evening, Caldwell released a statement via the Detroit Lions thanking the Ford family, his staff, his players, and the fans.
Statement from Jim Caldwell:
“My wife Cheryl and I greatly appreciate the tremendous opportunity to have been a part of the Lions organization serving as head coach for the past 4 years,” said Caldwell. “We offer our sincere gratitude to Martha Ford, the Ford family and the entire Detroit organization for an abundance of confidence and encouragement during our time with the team. I am blessed to have had successful years as a member of the Lions’ organization, and I would be remiss if I did not recognize the great effort put forth by our players and coaching staff who poured their hearts out in an effort to maintain the standard of excellence this organization has grown to expect. I wish the Lions, my coaching staff, our players and the loyal Lions fans, who were very supportive, much continued success in the future.”
Jim Caldwell may not have been the head coach to lead the Lions to the promised land, but there is no doubt about it that he impacted a lot of people during his time in Detroit.
