Nearly nothing has gone right for the Michigan Wolverines and head coach Jim Harbaugh in 2020. And while speculation has run rampant as to a potential return to the professional ranks, Harbaugh reiterated his commitment to Michigan during a virtual meeting with media members this afternoon.
Additionally, Harbaugh looked ahead to this weekend’s tilt against the Iowa Hawkeyes, saying the team anticipates being able to play the game as scheduled.
“Status right now, we were able to practice yesterday,” Harbaugh said. “Had a good, spirited practice. Was really impressed with our players. There was a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm for the practice session. And same this morning: good workouts in the weight room. Practicing today. Can’t talk enough really about how proud I am of the players, the coaches — been an inspiration, to me as well. Hit the field again today.”
However, Harbaugh declined to say how many of his players would be available for the game. But regardless, Harbaugh and his team’s “total focus” is now on Iowa.
The matchup was announced by the Big Ten as part of its “champions week”.
“The schedule — my thoughts on it is schedule is made — time, the place, the opponent, and then you prepare for the game,” Harbaugh said. “That’s our total focus here today and for the next six days.”
Michigan’s previous two games, including their annual matchup against rival Ohio State, were canceled after an outbreak of COVID-19 within the program.
