Following Michigan‘s dominant 42-27 win over Ohio State in 2021, Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh made a comment that everybody assumed was about Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day. While speaking to the media after the game, Harbaugh was asked if bulletin board material played a role in Michigan‘s win. His response was, “Some people who are standing on third base think they hit a triple, but they didn’t.” On Tuesday, Harbaugh finally admitted that the “third base” comment was about Day.
What did Jim Harbaugh say about Ryan Day?
On Tuesday, Harbaugh joined the fellas on the ‘Stoney & Jansen Show’ and he admitted that his ‘Born on third base” comment was indeed about Day.
“It was definitely a counterpunch by me to the comment of, they’re going to hang 100 on us, etc.,” Harbaugh said. “Kind of like a Sugar Ray Robinson.”
Back in 2020, Day reportedly told his team that “Michigan better hope for a mercy rule this year because we are going to hang 100 on them.”
Harbaugh’s Wolverines will go head to head this coming Saturday with Day’s Buckeyes with the winner advancing to the Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis.
