For the first time since 1917, the yearly edition of “The Game” will not be taking place.
The Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes will not be facing one another this year thanks to ongoing COVID-19 case increases within the Wolverines program. The decision was announced earlier today after thorough consultations with medical experts, health department officials and the university administration.
During the team’s press conference on Tuesday afternoon, coach Jim Harbaugh was asked if he felt obligated to respond to rumors about his future with the team; he answered that a potential contract extension would be discussed at the end of the season.
“Warde and I have for months said we’ll talk about the extension at the end of the season,” Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh seemed resigned to the fact that the season is likely coming to a close:

As far as the decision to not go head to head against their chief rivals, Harbaugh admitted there was disappointment amongst the team, who were looking forward to the annual matchup.
“Our players want to play. They wanted to play this week, and they want to play next week,” he said.
