Ready for your latest chapter in the never-ending battle between the SEC and Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh?

Recently, a former QB recruit shared a story of when he attended a football camp hosted by the Michigan program. Jake Allen, a quarterback commit to Florida for the Class of 2017, was recently part of a Q&A session with SEC Country. Among the many questions asked to him was reflecting on his weirdest/funniest moment while still in the recruiting trail and being scouted.

He talked about a moment where at the camp, Allen and other QB prospects were discussing academics. And apparently Harbaugh overheard and (perhaps jokingly) offered his opinion:

“I was messing around and said, ‘I got a C in third grade.’ Jim Harbaugh overheard and screams, ‘I don’t give a s–t about your grades,’” Allen told Abolverdi. “Then he realized I was part of the quarterback group that had recruits in it so he just kind of walked away. It was weird. I couldn’t wait to get out of there after that, and we left early.”

“Coach Harbaugh definitely rubbed me the wrong way,” Allen added.

We all know academics are important, particularly for athletes in college. They are students of the schools first and foremost before being students of the game. It’s pretty universal.

Taken out of context? More than likely. It’s hard to imagine Harbaugh or any coach openly saying, with confidence, such a remark being an employee of a university. Especially more so considering he tweeted this out earlier this month.

This tweet was followed up by others by Coach Harbaugh naming all the specific players who finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Allen is a 3-star pro-style QB out of Fort Lauderdale. He has been committed to the Gators since July of 2015 and signed his national letting intent to play in 2017 just last month.
