Jim Harbaugh officially reveals Michigan’s No. 2 quarterback

When it comes to the depth chart, throughout his career Jim Harbaugh is usually tight-lipped, and rightfully so. After all, why do anything that could possibly give even the slightest advantage to your opponent?

But this year has been a bit different, beginning with naming Shea Patterson the starting quarterback before the Notre Dame game kicked off.

Now Harbaugh has officially acknowledged that the Wolverines’ No. 2 quarterback is Dylan McCaffrey. The redshirt freshman was the next man up for Michigan in Week 1 against Notre Dame but Harbaugh said that was because Brandon Peters had an injury he was “working through.” Now, Peters is ready to go but according to Harbaugh, McCaffrey has earned the No. 2 gig. At least for now.

From Detroit News:

“Felt Dylan did a really good job, except the taking of a sack the same type of play Shea did a week before,” Harbaugh said. “Ball needs to come out and not take a sack. Would have liked to have learned from that. But really good. He did good. The decision (for him to come in second) was based on, as you know, going into the Notre Dame, Brandon had something he was working through but he was good this week. Dylan had a good week of practice and stayed at that No. 2 quarterback this week.”

In six games for the Wolverines in 2017, Peters completed 52.8% of his passes for 672 yards and four touchdowns. Over the first two games this season, McCaffrey has completed 71.4% of his passes for 40 yards and a touchdown.
