Jim Harbaugh plans on “moving ahead” with Brandon Peters as Michigan’s starting QB

Brandon Peters made a big splash when he came into the Michigan game versus Rutgers in the second quarter. Peters did play sparingly near the end of the Purdue game earlier this season, completing his only pass for one yard, but this was his first time coming into a game that wasn’t already decided. What Peters did with this opportunity was lead three consecutive touchdown drives, and guided the Wolverines to a 35-14 victory.

The decision to lift starter John O’Korn in favor Peters was not a spur of the moment thing, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh. Check out these quotes from him post-game press conference:

So the plan was to bring Peters in at some point in this week’s game, and that decision played out almost perfectly. Peters ended the day completing 10 of his 14 pass attempts in just over two and a half quarters of play.

Peters replaced John O’Korn who was just 3-for-6 on the day for 13 yards and one interception. The running game was working under O’Korn, but the passing game was anemic at best. That changed when Peters took over. The Wolverines continued running the ball well, but Peters’ decision-making and accuracy allowed Michigan to mix in more productive passes, and run away with the game.

So, what is the plan going forward? The normally tight-lipped Harbaugh was exactly the opposite after Saturday’s victory, letting us know his thought process on the future plans of his redshirt freshman quarterback:

That means we can expect to see Peters make his first career start Saturday night when the Wolverines host Minnesota on at 7:30 in Michigan Stadium. The big question is if Peters’ quality play against Rutgers can continue against the Golden Gophers.
