Say what you want about University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. Maybe you are annoyed by his over the top antics or maybe you support him because you believe every move he makes is to improve the football program. Regardless of how you may feel about him, there is one thing everyone can agree on, Harbaugh is, and always will be, under a powerful microscope.
The latest example of Harbaugh being under the watchful eye of the media (and in turn the public) is a piece that Deadspin released on Wednesday, revealing Harbaugh’s expense report at Michigan.
According to Deadspin, they really put some effort into obtaining said expense report.
“In an attempt to find answers, Deadspin filed multiple public-records requests with the University of Michigan dating back to May of last year, asking for itemized expense reports, credit card statements, and any and all reimbursement requests filed by Jim Harbaugh. After months of back-and-forth, Michigan’s FOIA office released Harbaugh’s expenses to us yesterday.”
We can only guess that Deadspin was hoping to find the proverbial “smoking gun” in the report, but that was not the case, hence the title of their piece, “We Got Jim Harbaugh’s Itemized Expenses And They’re Kind Of Lame.”
Instead, the author of the piece, Bill Bradley found things like $490.15 spent at The Old Spaghetti Factory in Indianapolis, nearly $2,000 spent at Morton’s in Orlando, and $338 for Desmond Howard‘s car service following his appearance at Michigan’s “Signing of the Stars” event in 2016. If that’s not enough for you, the report also shows that Harbaugh found himself quite the deal when he paid $293.28 for James Earl Jones to do a voiceover for a Michigan football hype video.
When all was said and done, the expense report obtained by Deadspin showed a whole lot of nothing. If anything, it further verified that, yes, Jim Harbaugh is a different cat, but he is doing things according to NCAA rules and regulations.
