Jimmy Howard’s rehabilitation for his injured knee appears to have suffered a setback.
Making his second start for the Grand Rapids Griffins in a conditioning stint, Howard left tonight’s game against Manitoba midway through the third period with an apparent knee injury.

He made a sprawling save and then gestured toward the bench. He skated off hunched over and flexed his knee at least once and immediately went to the locker room. Red Wings GM Ken Holland said afterwards that Howard had tweaked his knee and will be re-evaluated tomorrow, though an initial evaluation didn’t appear to reveal anything serious.

He had suffered a sprained knee on December 20 against Tampa Bay.
