Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh wants the same luxury that he’s about to enjoy this fall to be afforded to his brother, Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh – a season to coach.
The Big Ten made the decision to postpone their football season until at least the spring out of an abundance of safety and caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing plenty of criticism – from Harbaugh and the parents of several players to President Trump himself.
You can go ahead and count John Harbaugh in the group of people who wants there to be a Big Ten college football season.
During the end of a video conference call Wednesday, Harbaugh said that he was going to “throw a little controversy out there”:
“This is my position,” he said. “I say: Free the Big Ten. Free the Big Ten. Let’s go. Let’s play some football. Let’s get Michigan and Ohio State and all those great teams playing some football out there.”
Harbaugh went on to praise the safety protocols that his brother’s team and university has in place, and believes them sufficient enough for there to warrant a 2020 season.
“They’re doing a great job with their protocols, and those guys want to play,” he said. “And for anybody that wants to opt out, they can. They can. Their families should have that choice, just like the [Southeastern] Conference gave the players and families in the [Southeastern] Conference that choice, and most them, as you know decided, to play as a family. So I think the Big Ten players and families should have that same choice.”
We know where the Harbaugh family stands on playing college football this season. How about you?
