October 17, 2016 was the final home opener at Joe Louis Arena for the Detroit Red Wings, hosting the Ottawa Senators in what would eventually be a 5-1 victory or the home team.
But before the goal scoring started, there were some on-ice fireworks. Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson dropped the gloves against Ottawa defenseman Dion Phaneuf, and it wasn’t long before Detroit’s tall Swede landed on top of his challenger.
The crowd certainly appreciated Ericsson’s efforts!
