LOOK: Detroit Lions work out former Michigan State great

As we know, every NFL general manager is constantly working to improve their current roster. Whether that means claiming a player off waivers, signing a free agent, or working out recently released players, it’s all about getting better.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions were doing their due diligence as they worked out a trio of defensive tackles, including former Michigan State DT, Jerel Worthy. Following the workout, the Lions decided to sign Stefan McClure to their practice squad.

Worthy, who was a consensus All-American at Michigan State, was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 2nd Round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He most recently played for the Buffalo Bills before being released on Nov. 14.

When the Detroit Lions lost to the Minnesota Viking you probably threw your hands up and said “same ol’ Lions,” the slogan for tortured Lions fans. We all probably had that good old migraine and wondered why this team can’t step it up in these big games. The criticism of the Detroit Lions is that no matter how good they look leading up to it, when the lights shine the brightest they just can’t get it done. The truth is, the Lions don’t really play any worse against good teams, the good teams just know how to finish them off.

 Let’s look back to the Lions when they win. Over the last couple years they have established themselves as a fourth-quarter team. They usually trail or are tied at one point in the fourth quarter, and when it looks like the sky is falling, Matthew Stafford and the offense kicks it into overdrive and wins it. The problem with being a fourth-quarter team is it only works on bad teams.
