On Wednesday, the Detroit Lions announced that they would be revealing their new uniforms on April 13th, two weeks before the start of the NFL Draft.
“The updated logo and new typeface revealed online this morning are elements of a full rebranding which includes the removal of black from our brand identity,” the Lions said in a statement. “The rebrand will culminate with the unveiling of all new uniforms on April 13. Throughout the rebranding process, we made it a priority to emphasize our classic color combination of Honolulu blue and silver, which has been synonymous with the Detroit Lions since 1934.”
This marks the first change to the team’s uniform or logo since 2009. The organization signaled somewhat of a new wave with first-year coach Jim Schwartz and No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford. It added an eye and definition to the mane, teethand claws in an effort to make the lion appear fiercer.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was discovered that the Lions had made a change to their logo on their team store website.
