JUST IN: Detroit Lions waive OT Greg Robinson, which can only mean one thing, right?

On Friday, the Detroit Lions announced they have waived former No. 2 overall pick, Greg Robinson.

Though a corresponding move has not officially been made, the thought is that Robinson’s roster spot will go to left tackle Taylor Decker, who has yet to play this season due to injury.

Decker, who was drafted by the Lions in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, started all 16 games during his rookie season and he was more than formidable at left tackle.

With Matthew Stafford taking sacks at an alarming rate, Decker would be a welcomed addition if he is, in fact, able to return to the lineup on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

When Caldwell was asked about Decker’s progression Friday, he said he was improving.

“He’s doing well,” Caldwell said. “He’s been working and trying to simulate as much as we can, sort of game-like situations and he’s been doing those things well. So we got another day today and we’ll see. He’s close.”

When asked if Decker would play Sunday against Cleveland, Caldwell said “we’ll see,” as he is interested in how Decker responds Saturday after Friday’s practice.

The Detroit Lions announced today that they have waived-injured T Greg Robinson.

In addition, the Lions announced that they have signed WR Bradley Marquez to the practice squad and released CB Adarius Barnes from the practice squad.

Marquez comes to Detroit after spending the past two seasons (2015-16) and the first half of 2017 with the Los Angeles Rams. Currently in his third season, he has logged 16 receptions for 125 yards in 30 career games after originally entering the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Rams out of Texas Tech.

2017 Detroit Lions Midseason Awards

Heading into the 2017 season, the hope was the Detroit Lions, who looked to have a very difficult schedule early on, would weather the storm and give themselves a shot at getting into playoff contention by the time the later weeks rolled around.

Well, the Lions did just that and following a win on Monday Night Football over the Green Bay Packers, they sit at 4-4, just two games behind the Minnesota Vikings for first place in the NFC North.

So, with the first half of the season in the books, it’s time to had out our DSN Detroit Lions Midseason Awards.

Most Valuable Player – Matthew Stafford

Let me begin by saying that it was not a cut and dry decision to give this award to Lions quarterback, Matthew Stafford. Safety Glover Quin has been absolutely amazing on the defensive side of the football as he already has three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and he has even scored a touchdown. Without Quin, there is no telling what the Lions defense could look like.

That being said, though Matthew Stafford has struggled at times, he has thrown 14 touchdown passes and only four interceptions through eight games, and he is still the MVP of the Detroit Lions. Just imagine if Stafford were to suffer an injury similar to what Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered, forcing him to miss extended time. If that were to happen, the Lions season would be over, immediately.
