The depth of the Lions defensive line took a bit of a hit Monday night when defensive tackle Stefan Charles left the game with a knee injury that was thought to be potentially serious. As it turns out, the injury was serious enough to land Charles on injured reserve. Cornerback Crezdon Butler, who played in eight games with Detroit last season, has been signed to take Charles’s spot on the roster.

After Monday’s 42-21 loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, Charles was seen wearing a brace on his right knee.

Charles has seen regular time in the rotation at defensive tackle this season, appearing in 12 games while racking up seven tackles. With Haloti Ngata and rookie A’Shawn Robinson slated in the starting roles, Charles, Khryi Thornton, and Tyrunn Walker have been the primary backups.

Butler, who has not played a snap in the NFL this season, played with the Lions in three preseason games this year before being cut. Detroit is the eighth NFL team that he has suited up for in his six year career. While playing in the final eight games of the 2015 season with Detroit, Butler recorded three tackles.
