Matthew Stafford may only be 31 years of age, but he also happens to be going into his 11th year as quarterback for the Detroit Lions.

11 seasons in the NFL can wear even the greatest athletes down and Lions head coach Matt Patricia recognizes the importance of keeping his veterans as fresh as possible.
On Sunday, Patricia spoke to the media and said Stafford will not be practicing for the second day in a row. Patricia said has been planned since earlier in the summer.
Stafford will rest again for today's practice. This was previously scheduled per Coach Patricia

This will essentially make five-straight days that Stafford has been able to rest.
Wednesday – Walkthrough (Stafford barely did anything)
Thursday – Preseason Game 1 vs. Patriots (Stafford did not play)
Friday – Day off for players
Saturday – Scheduled day off for Stafford
Sunday – Scheduled day off for Stafford
Though it makes perfect sense that Patricia is trying to give Stafford extra rest, it is a bit interesting considering the Lions signal-caller has a history of practicing unless he is injured.
