Michigan gets two offensive weapons back from injury

For those of you who were able to attend the Michigan Spring Game/Practice (or at least were able to stream it), you got a sneak peek at what the Wolverines’ offense will look like in 2019.

But even if you did catch the game/practice, you were not able to see their full repertoire of offensive weapons, including receiver Nico Collins and running back Christin Turner.

According to Michigan’s new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, both Collins and Turner returned for the last practice or two of the spring.

From Wolverines Wire:

“Yeah, Christian was able to come back towards the end,” Gattis said. “Obviously, we were able to see him early on. He’s such an explosive player as a runner. He’s often a guy – the message from me to Christian is: ‘Slow down, sometimes.’ Everything doesn’t have to be so fast. I’m excited about the skillset that he brings, just from his explosive nature as a running back. He’s got great balance, vision and body control – everything you need to be an elite running back. And so I’m really excited about, when we get him back fully, Coach Jay Harbaugh being able to take his development to the next level and make him an elite player.

“And then, I was fortunate to see Nico get back out there yesterday. Nico did some individual drills. To see a big kid like that be able to sink his hips and stick his foot in the ground in transition, that just made my spring finish off the right way, being able to get him back in (individual drills) and how excited I am about him and his development. Obviously, he missed quite a bit, a big chunk of (individual drills). So I’ve gotta catch him up now, and he’s gotta catch himself up throughout the summer. Obviously, people have been able to see the talented player he is. I think he can be an elite receiver – I really do believe in that. And I’m excited to get a chance to work with him when we get back in the fall, and take his game to the next level.”

Though it is a great sign that Collins and Turner were able to return, starting wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones was unable to give it a go.
