Since taking their lumps against Penn State, Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines have caught fire, winning three-straight Big Ten games to move to 8-2 on the season. Despite the winning streak, it is still a long shot that the Wolverines pass Ohio State, Michigan State, and Penn State to win the Big Ten East.

That being said, you can bet that Harbaugh will have his players ready for this coming Saturday’s game against the undefeated Wisconsin Badgers.

On Monday, Harbaugh spoke to the media and said that quarterback Wilton Speight has been cleared for non-contact practice but that freshman Brandon Peters would get the start against the Badgers.

Speight, who was the starter for the Wolverines out of the gates this season, suffered a back injury against Purdue and he has not played since. While he was starting, the Michigan offense was very lackluster.

Backup quarterback, John O’Korn, stepped in to replace Speight but the offense continued to struggle.

Enter the current starter, Brandon Peters.

Since being handed the proverbial “keys to the car,” Peters and the Wolverines offense has started rolling, and though it has been against lesser competition, there has been something different about the confidence of the team each and every time they run out onto the field.

It will be very interesting to see what Harbaugh decides to do if and when Speight is healthy enough to take a hit and play in a game. Will he roll with the hot hand or will he go back to his original choice?

Only time will tell, but you can be sure the Michigan head coach will play the guy he thinks gives his team the best chance to win. Especially when Ohio State comes to the Big House on Nov. 25.
