The Detroit Tigers now have multiple All-Star representatives for next week’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Outfielder Justin Upton has been named to the American League squad.

Upton is hitting .271 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs. It is his fourth career All-Star appearance.

Upton essentially replaces Michael Fulmer, who will take part in festivities but won't be on active roster for game since he pitches Sunday.

Upton has been the team’s most consistent and productive hitter since the start of the season, in a year where Detroit has not quite gotten what they had expected and hoped for from both Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, and having fellow outfielder J.D. Martinez sidelined for the first six weeks to start the season.
Upton and the Tigers wrap up the first half of the 2017 regular season this weekend on the road against the Cleveland Indians. Sunday’s series and first-half finale features a pair of AL All-Stars in Tigers’ ace Michael Fulmer, and Tribe starter Corey Kluber. Neither will be on the official roster for Tuesday’s All-Star Game.
Fulmer was named to the AL All-Star team earlier this week.
