During the fourth quarter of Sunday’s blowout win over the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions saw one of their defensive leaders go down in an unfortunate moment. With the Lions holding a commanding 52-21 lead, safety Brian Branch suffered an injury after taking a leg whip from one of his own teammates.

The training staff quickly came out to check on Branch, who remained on the turf for a short time before getting to his feet. Thankfully, he was able to walk off under his own power, but he did head straight to the locker room afterward for further evaluation.
The Lions will be hoping it’s nothing serious. Early indications suggest it could be something minor, possibly a bone bruise, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Detroit will need Branch’s energy and versatility next week when they travel to face the Baltimore Ravens. His ability to play both safety and slot corner has been a huge part of the Lions’ defensive identity.
For now, fans will have to cross their fingers that Branch’s injury isn’t anything long-term, as the Lions look to keep momentum rolling into Week 3.
