For the second time this week, the Lions have made a splash off the waiver wire.
From the NFL transaction wire, the Lions were awarded DT Khyri Thornton off waivers from the Patriots. Takes Ish Kitchen's roster spot

Khyri Thornton, a 2014 third round pick of the Green Bay Packers, has been claimed by Detroit. Thornton, who shined in his collegiate career at the University of Southern Mississippi, never played a game with the Packers before he was released in September. He was also a part of the New England Patriots 53-man roster and practice squad but never saw any game action.
Thornton will replace Isamaa’ily Kitchen, who the Lions released earlier Friday.
With all the adversity the Lions have encountered on the defensive line, it’s no surprise that they are trying to build depth at the tackle position. Haloti Ngata has missed the last two games while nursing a calf injury, and Tyrunn Walker is out for the season after breaking his leg.
