Lions GM Bob Quinn talks about opportunity to hold Tua Tagovailoa hostage

The goal was for the Detroit Lions to trade the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft for additional draft capital but that did not happen. Lions GM Bob Quinn said that though he talked to plenty of teams about moving out of the No. 3 slot, there was never an actual offer on the table for him to accept, or reject.

On Tuesday, Quinn joined the Jamie and Stoney Show on 97.1 The Ticket and he was asked about the possibility of drafting QB Tua Tagovailoa at No. 3 and holding him hostage for other teams that wanted him.

Quinn’s response to the question from Stoney was that the scenario to hold Tua hostage was easier said than done and that you cannot assume another team wants him, even if signs pointed to it.

“It’s Much easier said than done,” Quinn replied to Mike Stone on 97.1 The Ticket, “Much, much. How do I know that Tua was their guy? How do I know that they didn’t really want an offensive tackle, which they had talked a lot about? There’s so many maybe’s in that conversation, that is why it doesn’t happen in the NFL.”

“We all trust each other as GM’s,” Quinn continued,” I worked with Chris Grier for a year in my first year in the league. Chris was in New England in 2000. Ultimately, this is a game of poker. On draft weekend, I take no one’s word. I couldn’t sit there and truthfully for the Lions organization consider something like that because you never know what could happen.”

Nation, are you buying what Quinn is selling or do you think that holding Tua hostage and then trading him to the highest bidder would have been the right play?
