The Detroit Lions once again added to their history of embarrassing losses this past Sunday with a setback against a Washington Redskins team that entered the afternoon with a 1-9 record.
Scrutiny has been tightening around the job security of head coach Matt Patricia (and general manager Bob Quinn) for weeks now as the losses began mounting. Patricia himself was asked point blank about if he’s wondering about his job security.
But in classic Patricia fashion, he completely dodged the question.
“I definitely think the team is fighting,” Patriciasaid. “I think we’re working really hard, everybody is out there playing very hard. We see that, even through the different lineup changes that we’ve had and the different guys being out on the field, whether it’s injuries of whatever it may be. I think everybody that goes out there, goes out and tries to compete at a really high level, steps up and tries to do their job.
“For us, we know we’re in a lot of close games, we’re really close on all these things and I think everybody has the same sort of frustration not being able to close them out,” Patricia said. “The good thing is for this group is they really do work hard.”
The team may be “fighting”, but that has nothing to do with how he’s feeling about how safe he is in the position of head coach.
Since Patricia took over in 2018, the Lions have gone 9-17-1. If the losses continue, the voices calling for his firing will only grow louder.
