Lions injury report: Ansah, Levy, Ebron ruled out against Eagles

As if taking on the 3-0 Philadelphia Eagles wasn’t challenging enough, the Detroit Lions will be without three of their key players. Defensive end Ezekiel Ansah (ankle), linebacker DeAndre Levy (quadriceps), and tight end Eric Ebron (knee/ankle) have all been ruled out for Sunday’s game.

This will leave the Lions unbelievably short-handed as the Eagles come to town. These injuries alone may be enough to derail the Lions, but just for good measure running back Dwayne Washington (ankle) is doubtful, and safety Don Carey (ribs),receiver Marvin Jones (foot) and safety Tavon Wilson (neck) are all questionable.

While Jones is expected to play, it may not be enough in what is an early season do-or-die game for the Lions. They have already dug themselves into a hole starting 1-3, and dropping to 1-4 would all but close the door on their playoff hopes. While no game in the NFL is ever over before it starts, the chips are certainly stacked against the Lions, and it would be a near miracle if this under-manned team can somehow keep their heads above water until their superstars return.

Every team in the league deals with injuries, but if the Lions have any more key guys go down, they might just have to start holding open auditions for roster spots. If the Lions want to pull of what would be an incredible upset of the Eagles on Sunday, their next men up will have to be their best men.
