The Detroit Lions have officially parted ways with wide receiver Lawrence Keys after his brief stay in Allen Park.
According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, Detroit reached an injury settlement with Keys on Thursday. The move comes after the young receiver suffered a hamstring injury during training camp and was waived with an injury designation earlier this week.
Keys cleared waivers and reverted to Detroit’s injured reserve list before the two sides reached the settlement.
Lawrence Keys’ Lions Opportunity Ends Early
Detroit signed Keys on June 18, giving the former Tulane receiver an opportunity to compete in a crowded position room. His roster battle was interrupted by the hamstring injury before the Lions reached their preseason schedule.
The Lions waived Keys while signing running back and return specialist Raheem Blackshear, who was added after Sione Vaki suffered a broken nose.
An injury settlement provides Keys with agreed-upon compensation related to his recovery period while removing him from Detroit’s injured reserve list. He will now be free to pursue another NFL opportunity once he is healthy enough to return.
