Well… the coaching carousel just went from busy to downright chaotic.
Just minutes after the Detroit Lions made waves by parting ways with offensive coordinator John Morton, the Baltimore Ravens dropped a bomb of their own, firing longtime head coach John Harbaugh after an injury-ridden, playoff-less season. Harbaugh had been in Baltimore for nearly two decades, so seeing him on the market instantly reshapes the entire NFL hiring landscape.

And oddly enough… that shockwave might be great news for Detroit.
With Harbaugh now expected to jump to the very top of the head-coaching candidate pool, former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, whom I previously mentioned as a target Dan Campbell should consider, suddenly shifts down a tier, and that could create a real window for the Lions to take their swing.
Let’s be real, Stefanski is still going to get calls for head-coaching interviews, but Harbaugh’s sudden availability changes the order of priority across the league. And if Stefanski winds up squeezed out of the top seat in a few spots… the Lions’ offensive coordinator opening might start to look pretty appealing.
Detroit offers a pretty compelling sell: a stable organization, a proven quarterback, an offense built around physicality, and a head coach who wants a creative, assertive offensive mind working alongside him. Yes, the Lions need to retool the trenches, no argument there, but everyone knows that’s already a major focus heading into the offseason. Once the line is fixed, this offense becomes dangerous again in a hurry.
From Stefanski’s perspective? An OC role in Detroit isn’t a demotion; it’s a reset. Work with a strong roster, rebuild stock, and potentially step right back into the head-coaching conversation from a winning situation.
That’s why this Harbaugh news matters in Detroit more than it might seem on the surface.
Suddenly, the Lions don’t just have an OC vacancy… they might have one of the most attractive ones available.
And if Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell are serious about upgrading the role, Stefanski should absolutely be on speed dial.
Because opportunities like this don’t come around often.
