The opening betting line is out for Week 15’s heavyweight showdown between the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams, and oddsmakers wasted no time making Matthew Stafford’s squad the early favorite.
According to the initial DraftKings line, the Lions open as +4.5 underdogs on the road in Los Angeles. Detroit is +170 on the moneyline, while the Rams sit at –205, and the over/under is set at 51.5 points.
That point spread reflects both the challenge of traveling west and Detroit’s brutal injury luck coming out of Thursday night’s 44–30 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Lions improved to 8–5 and reignited their playoff hopes, but the victory came with a devastating loss: All-Pro safety Brian Branch tore his Achilles, ending his season.
Still, sportsbooks clearly respect Detroit’s offensive ceiling. Jared Goff is coming off a 309-yard performance, Amon-Ra St. Brown gutted through an ankle injury to post 92 yards, and Jameson Williams logged his second straight seven-catch outing. Add in Jahmyr Gibbs’ three touchdowns and Detroit’s emerging pass rush, highlighted by Al-Quadin Muhammad’s three sacks, and the Lions have rediscovered the explosive, balanced identity that made them dangerous early in the season.
The Rams, meanwhile, continue to ride Stafford’s late-season surge and a revitalized offense that remains tough to stop at home. With two teams in the thick of the NFC playoff race, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Early Reaction:
A 4.5-point spread suggests Vegas sees this as a one-score game with plenty of offensive fireworks. And with the Lions fighting for postseason positioning, this matchup has all the makings of a December classic.
