Local writer suggests Sunday could have been beginning of end for Lions QB Matthew Stafford

While healthy in 2019, Matthew Stafford was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL as he was on pace to toss for just shy of 5,000 yards and 40 touchdowns.

Because of that, many fans and analysts, including myself, were extremely excited to see what Stafford would do in 2020 in a Lions offense that seems to be loaded with weapons.

Unfortunately, Stafford has struggled through his first two games of the season and though he has not had his top wide receiver, Kenny Golladay, he has made mistakes (taking sacks and throwing bad interceptions) that are not acceptable from a veteran quarterback.

So, now the question is, when the Lions fire head coach Matt Patricia and GM Bob Quinn, will Stafford also be replaced?

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press suggested that exact scenario on Monday.

QB Matthew Stafford: Stafford threw a costly interception and took an uncharacteristically bad sack Sunday for the second straight game. As I wrote in my grades, the Lions have much bigger problems than Stafford, which is why they need their quarterback to play near-perfect football. At this rate, Stafford could be playing his final 14 games in Detroit. If this season doesn’t get on track real quick, the Lions may be looking at wholesale changes this offseason — at coach, general manager and quarterback.

Nation, should the Lions move on from Matthew Stafford? Or, do you think a new GM and head coach would decide to stick with him?
