LOOK: Anthony Gose makes pitching debut in Lakeland

There was big Tigers organizational news made on Monday, as converted outfielder Anthony Gose made his pitching debut Monday night down in High Class-A Lakeland.

Gose had been down in extended spring training working everything out, from mechanics to arm strength, stretching him out to begin his pitching career. For those who remember, the 26-year-old was designated for assignment by Detroit after the team acquired outfielder Mikie Mahtook in an offseason trade back in January. Gose later cleared waivers and received an invite to spring training before eventually being cut just weeks before Opening Day.

After being cut, Gose inquired to the club about potentially converting to pitcher, feeling that it may be a better route for him to get back to the big leagues. Detroit happily accepted his offer and challenge, and here we are, with Gose having made his big league pitching debut. And he didn’t do too shabby.

Already hitting close to triple digits on the radar gun? Alright Anthony, I see ya. It shouldn’t come as a complete surprise for many who know of his play-making abilities. Gose as a big league player has always been heralded for his defense and arm strength first and foremost.

You can view the scouting report, specifically on the pitching front, on Gose from Perfect Game USA back when came out of high school in 2008. And it appears that this will be the route he sticks with moving forward, per Tigers V.P. of player development Dave Littlefield.
