If you are a fan of the Pistons, you have certainly heard it before. A superstar player will never sign with Detroit. So, we were certainly caught a bit off guard when Bovada released the odds for where LeBron James will begin the 2018-2019 NBA season.

As you can see below, the Detroit Pistons (+1000) currently have the fifth-odds along with the Philadelphia 76ers to land James, behind only the Houston Rockets (+250), Cleveland Cavaliers (+275), Los Angeles Lakers (+500), and Golden State Warriors (+600).

Prior to landing Blake Griffin in a recent trade with the Clippers, there is no way the Pistons would have been included on this list because there is no way LeBron will ever sign with a team unless it has multiple superstars to play alongside him.

Though James is having yet another MVP worthy season, averaging 26.5 points, 8.7 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game, his team is not following suit. In fact, through 53 games, the Cavaliers are 31-22, 7.5 games behind the Boston Celtics for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and they just cannot seem to get things together.

Because of their struggles, the Cavs went wild at the NBA trade deadline as they traded Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye, Iman Shumpert, Derrick Rose, Jae Crowder, and Dwyane Wade as part of a major facelift to their current roster. In return, they acquired Rodney Hood, George Hill, Jordan Clarkson, and Larry Nance Jr.

By making the moves, the Cavaliers not only got more athletic but also improved their backcourt to take a bit of the pressure off LeBron.

That being said, despite the overhaul in Cleveland, LeBron James has always been about putting himself in the best position to win another NBA Championship and the Cavs will still have their work cut out for them just to get to the NBA Finals.

So, the question is, could LeBron really end up signing with the Detroit Pistons this coming summer? Well, I hate to break your hearts, Pistons fans but despite the 10-1 odds, I would be absolutely shocked if James were to head to the Motor City, even though the Pistons now having both Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin to make his life easier.

But, we can always dream, right?
