LOOK: Detroit Lions Taylor Decker gets into epic Twitter battle with fan

On Saturday night, Oklahoma went into Columbus, OH and destroyed Ohio State 31-16 in front of Buckeye Nation. The biggest difference in the game was Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield compared to Buckeyes QB, J.T. Barrett. Mayfield was brilliant, completing 27 of 35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns, while Barrett was only 19 of 35 for 183 yards and an interception.

Following the game, Mayfield said his team could have been better.

“We should have won by more,” Mayfield said.

But that comment, or the win itself, is not what put Mayfield squarely in the news the past couple of days.

After the final seconds ticked off the clock at the Horseshoe, Mayfield began running around the field with a huge Sooners flag to celebrate the big win, which was fine. But it was when he stopped at midfield and planted the flag into the giant block “O” that has many in a frenzy.

One person who was not thrilled with Mayfield’s gesture is former Ohio State Buckeye and current Detroit Lion, Taylor Decker.

Upon seeing Mayfield put the flag into the ground, Decker jumped on Twitter and had a few choice words for the Sooners quarterback. In fact, he suggested Mayfield “drink bleach” after the incident. (The Twitter police would point out the spelling error but that’s beside the point.)

As a professional athlete, Decker has a ton of followers on Twitter, 95.6K according to his homepage, so he was sure to get some backlash from the “bleach” comment.

Well, that’s exactly what happened.

This particular fan (John Sixkiller) decided to fire back at Decker by posting a photo of the flag-planting incident, including the phrase “Suck it up buttercup” in his message to the former Buckeye.

No big deal, right? After all, it was Decker who started things by suggesting Mayfield have a bleach cocktail. That would be the end of things, right?

Nope.

Rather than going on with his night, Decker made the mistake of reading the responses to his “drink bleach” tweet and decided it would be appropriate to take a personal shot back at poor Mr. “Sixkiller” (if that is even his real name!!!)

Ugh. Really Taylor? That’s how you had to play this?

Wait, you thought that was the end of it? You really believed that Mr. “Sixkiller” was going to let Decker have the last word? NO Sir! When your “last name” is “Sixkiller,” you determine when the war is over!

Game…Set…Match!

This is yet another example of why professional athletes should be careful on social media and never get into a Twitter war with a fan. It usually ends up being a losing cause and then outlets like Detroit Sports Nation are almost forced to do a post and fans are left wondering if Mr. “Sixkiller” is Decker’s real father.

  1. 1. You are a sportswriter and you have never heard of the name Sixkiller?
    2. It is a last name of Native American origins. Surely you have heard of the former Cherokee chief, Wilma Mankiller or Lake Tenkiller? Pretty culturally insensitive.
    3. His name really is John Sixkiller. I grew up and went to school with him. He is as hilarious and witty in real life.
